Silent Amen

Life is full of ups and downs
Sometimes it just turns you around
Through the pleasure and the pain
Sometimes you can’t, can’t constrain
The emotions, the ebb and flow
It comes and goes, you just don’t know
Sometimes it’s good, sometimes a sin
But through it all, we say Amen

When you can’t form a linguistic thought
And with ambivalence you’re overwrought
With news blaring nothing good
Wars, poverty and a shooting in the hood
Hold the hand of the one you love
Remember this was a gift from above
Sometimes it’s good, sometimes a sin
But through it all, we say amen

Sometimes memories hang around
They bring us up, they take us down
They can help forget the strife
Or they cut, cut like a knife
Possessing every thought in your head
Bringing happiness or emptiness instead
Sometimes it’s good, sometimes a sin
But through it all, you say amen

These words to some may be a charade
And think from the meaning I have strayed
How can life be so bitter sweet
So lacking, but yet so complete
Filled with joy, but also heartache
So much give, so much take
Oh, good and bad, I’ve been in the middle
Answers I have none, despite living life’s riddle

Sometimes it’s been good, sometimes a sin
And through it all, I’ve said amen

Amen
