Grandma's Hands

For as long as I can remember,
you were always there for me.
I would watch your hands create a meal
or dress a wounded knee.

**

We would spend the hours together- reading books and having fun.
Your hands would turn the pages
and shield my eyes from the sun.

**

I got older and thought I needed you less
but, you were there for me more.
Your hands waited patiently
and were there when I knocked on the door.

**

Time has flown by and I realize
they don't look the same - your hands cannot
reach out to me when I call your name.

**
Now I know you need me and it is my turn
to care, for my Grandma's hands
that were always there.
