What is BLACK?
Is it void of light?
Is it without color?
My eyes sparkle.
My skin is brown?
What is BLACK?
Africa? She is home,
But her children left long ago.
So many were taken.
No we are everywhere.
What is BLACK?
Is it urban?
Is it street?
We are in the suburbs.
We are in the country.
What is BLACK?
Is it how I speak?
Close your eyes and listen to my voice.
You can't see my color,
But you know that I am BLACK!
What if I do not sound BLACK? What then?
What is BLACK?
Why do you try to put it in a box?
That box you call BLACK
I am me. I am BLACK and I am me.
And me does not fit in your BLACK box.
