Did you see it?
Did you see that spill of sun-yellow through the window,
Splashing a warm-lemonade glow over the cat?
Did you hear it?
Did you hear that pulse of bone-rattling bass down the street,
Pounding from the car a half-block away?
Did you smell it?
Did you smell that almost-burnt wisp of childhood that brought
Memories of Dad’s famous waffles?
Did you taste it?
Did you taste that first-date hint of basil from the restaurant
Where parking meters have replaced wobbly chairs?
Did you feel it?
Did you feel that not-shaved scratchiness
Of the tucked-into-bed goodnight kiss?
Yeah.
