When I was young I used this word To describe my car when out of gas And to describe my wallet When I was short on cash Empty described our kitchen cabinets When we found them bare And the condition of my tire When I went to use the spare Empty was a good description Of my head and my thoughts And how I found my pockets After groceries had been bought But now that I am older My life on earth has changed I find this word Empty Describes many other things Empty describes my heart Now that I am alone Empty Describes our house Together we called home Empty Describes my bed Where we peacefully slept Empty describes my shoulder Where I held her when she wept Take me at my word Since my dear wife has passed Empty describes a great deal more Than simply out of gas |
